OVERVIEW OF AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

For the 40th running of The Cowtown®, we are seeking influential and energetic individuals to serve as Ambassadors for the 2018 event. Ambassadors will serve as volunteers for Cowtown and help spread the word about Cowtown in their communities online through social media and blogs as well as in person by attending community events and other races.

Ambassadors can be from any number of metro areas in Texas and beyond (Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Oklahoma City, Little Rock, etc). There are no set guidelines on running philosophy or pace. We just ask that Ambassadors be a previous participant, regularly training, active on social media, and active in their local running community.

If you have previously participated in a Cowtown Marathon distance (ultra, marathon, or half marathon), are looking to become involved with the event as a volunteer, and are involved in your running community (online and in person), please use the following link to apply to be a part of the Cowtown Ambassador team!

AMBASSADOR EXPECTATIONS

  • Run a Sunday race at Cowtown in 2018
  • Make at least one original post related to Cowtown or running per week through from September to March on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, personal, blog)
  • Share Cowtown posts
  • Volunteer with Cowtown at least twice in the year (this can be done
  • Cowtown weekend, helping at other events, etc)
  • Attend other running events and wear Cowtown gear
  • Become an expert on Cowtown
  • Attend an orientation session either in person at the Cowtown Office or through Skype (or a similar platform)

QUALITIES OF AN AMBASSADOR

  • Have previously run a Cowtown Sunday (marathon distance) race since 2014
  • Have at least a Facebook page which they regularly share and post items to
  • Be social media savvy
  • Be involved in the running or local community
  • Positive attitude
  • Love of Cowtown!

AMBASSADOR PERKS

  • Complimentary entry into a Sunday race for 2018 (your choice of the

ARE AMBASSADORS COMPENSATED? 

Ambassadors will not be paid. They will receive the perks listed above but will not receive monetary compensation for their role.

HOW MANY AMBASSADOR POSITIONS WILL THERE BE IN 2018?

For 2018, we will be selecting a minimum of 10 ambassadors.

DO I HAVE TO BE A FAST RUNNER TO BE AN AMBASSADOR?

No! We want our Ambassadors to be of different paces, ages, locations, and philosophies. We do ask that you be a dedicated, experienced runner that trains regularly in order to provide advice or insight to others, if necessary.

HOW DO I APPLY TO BE AN AMBASSADOR?

To apply to be an Ambassador, please use the following link to complete the online registration form. All applicants must apply online. The Ambassador Application will be available from Monday, June 5, 2017 to Monday, July 16, 2017 at 5:00pm central time. Applications will only be accepted online.

WHEN WILL I FIND OUT IF I HAVE BEEN SELECTED AS AN AMBASSADOR?

Decisions will be e-mailed to applicants on or before Monday, July 31, 2017.

I AM NOT AN EXPERT ON ALL THINGS COWTOWN.  WILL THAT DISQUALIFY ME FROM BEING AN AMBASADOR?

We can help with this along the way. We want you to be able to answer questions without referring people to the website or having to look them up all the time. At orientation, we will provide some answers to common questions, give bits of trivia, etc.

HOW LONG IS THE APPOINTMENT OF AMBASSADOR?

Cowtown ambassador appointments will last for one year from August to July. You will be required to post things on social media weekly from September to March and if we have any other events that need promoting.

WILL AMBASSADORS HAVE TO REAPPLY FROM YEAR TO YEAR?

Yes. Previous Ambassador will not be guaranteed a spot. We will evaluate candidates each year.

IF I FEEL I CANNOT FULFILL MY ROLE, CAN I OPT OUT OF THE AMBASSADOR ROLE?

Yes. Likewise, if Cowtown notices you are not fulfilling your role as an Ambassador or exhibiting poor conduct/conduct not in line with Cowtown values, we can choose to “terminate” the relationship.

DO I HAVE TO HAVE A SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNT TO BE AN AMBASSADOR?

Yes! We require that you have at least a Facebook page but other platforms such as Instagram and Twitter or a blog would be great to. We want your help in spreading the word on how great our race is and in today’s world, social media is a great place to get the word out!
